Do you think about your future retirement? Sure you do. Where do you think people are the happiest? According to the the latest Gallup-Healthways State of American Well-Being, older Americans are happiest in Hawaii. Do we really need a study for this?

There are many questions to ask when deciding where you might live when you retire. Some of the things people think about when moving includes:

Family

How close to loved ones will you be. It might not be a primary consideration for some people, but family is usually on people's minds.

Quality of Health Care

How close to a hospital and major medical center will you be? Even if you don't have major health concerns now, those develop as you get older. Being close to quality doctors, specialists, hospitals, and other health care services are usually near the top of most people's minds.

Cost and Availability of Long-Term Health Care

As we get older we become more likely to need help and assistance with normal living activities. With aging also comes the increased risk of Alzheimer's and dementia. The availability of in-home health care providers, adult day care centers, assisted living and memory care facilities, and nursing homes should be a consideration.

Another concern - the cost of long-term health care. Of course, if you own Long-Term Care Insurance, you may be less concerned about the costs, but the availability and quality of care remain important.

The LTC NEWS Cost of Care Calculator provides both the current and future expected cost of care throughout the country.

Before you retire, be sure to include an affordable Long-Term Care policy to your plan. You will safeguard income and assets, access quality care, including in-home care, and reduce the stress and anxiety otherwise placed on those you love.

Find a qualified and experienced specialist to help you navigate these plans' many options and costs.
