Osteoarthritis or degenerative joint disease of the hip is a condition of loss of the hip joint cartilage. This loss may be due to normal wear and tear over the course of many decades.

The University of Michigan Medical School says many other reasons can cause degenerative joint disease such as:

Avascular necrosis (AVN) or osteonecrosis (ON) of the femoral head (the ball of the hip)

  • Developmental dysplasia
  • Genetic conditions such as epiphyseal dysplasias
  • Hip impingement
  • Labral tears
  • Perthes disease
  • Prior trauma
  • Slipped capital femoral epiphysis

Wear and Tear Arthritis

This type of arthritis is known as "wear and tear" arthritis. The impact of aging is hard on your body. Your health and body have changed in the past 20 years, and as you get older, you will see even more changes in health, body, and mind.

Osteoarthritis or degenerative joint disease occurs most commonly in the hands, hips, and knees. With older people, it puts mobility and balance in question. There is treatment available to ease the pain, and joint replacements are often used to increase mobility and eliminate the disease's pain and discomfort.

Without successful treatment, the person may have increased mobility and balance problems leading them to require long-term care. Cortisone injections can be used as a treatment to delay the need for a joint replacement. Read more from the Cleveland Clinic

Health, Body, and Mind Change With Aging

As we get older, these types of issues become more common. Longevity means we need an advance plan to deal with future long-term health care costs. Affordable LTC insurance will protect your future retirement income and assets like your 401(k), IRA, 403(b) and ease the burden that is otherwise placed on family.

A successful retirement plan should include Long-Term Care Insurance. The financial costs and burdens of aging will impact you, your family, lifestyle, and legacy.

You will also have access to your choice of quality care in your desired setting, including at home. Your family will have the time to be family and not placed into the role of a caregiver.

LTC Insurance is Best Obtained Before Retirement

Be sure to start planning in your 40s or 50s as LTC Insurance is medically underwritten. Premiums are also much lower at younger ages. The cost of the insurance can vary over 100% between insurance companies, so be sure to seek the help of a qualified Long-Term Care Insurance specialist.

You can't prevent aging, but you can prepare your family and finances giving you and your loved ones peace-of-mind.
