Adult day care centers (ADCCs) support and help adults during the day. Individuals do not stay overnight or live at adult day care centers. They arrive for care in the mornings and leave in the evening.
These are community centers designed for adults with other options for care at night. Most ADCC recipients have caregivers or family members who work day jobs and are available to provide care in the evenings.
Other individuals may not have caregivers to return to but have fewer needs at night than during the day. Sometimes, independent adults will also go to ADCCs for the social benefits or because their loved ones feel they would be better off in a community rather than alone during the day.
Adult day care centers provide care and companionship to older adults with chronic health and aging problems, including dementia. They usually offer health, therapeutic, recreational, social, and other engaging services and activities. These can be great to combat loneliness and help older adults live fuller, healthier, and happier lives.
Adult day care centers can also provide respite for family members and caregivers who need a break during the day. These periods of respite can do wonders for caregivers and their relationships with their aging or disabled loved ones.
ADCCs are also less expensive than most in-home or facility care. They're a flexible, interactive option. Long-Term Care Insurance covers adult day care centers.
