Incontinence is the inability to maintain control of bowel or bladder function. This ranges from a partial loss to a complete loss of control. 

In a Long-Term Care Insurance policy, incontinence would also include the inability to keep up with personal hygiene, like caring for a catheter or colostomy bag.

Incontinence (or continence) is one of the six activities of daily living. Needing help with two or more activities triggers Long-Term Care Insurance benefits.
